Kicking off the day’s programme is a man widely regarded as the UK’s number one travel expert. Simon Calder is the go-to person for countless TV channels and radio stations and he’ll be talking about some great overseas options. From ideas if you’re taking a group overseas for the first time to standout experiences for those well travelled, catching a session with Simon is always a highlight and great fun. He has an incredible depth of knowledge, combined with a genuine passion for exploring the world. This session is not to be missed.

Simon is the travel correspondent for The Independent, and an acclaimed television and radio broadcaster and commentator, featuring on programmes including BBC Breakfast, Good Morning Britain and both the BBC and ITV News.

Mark Smith from TV’s Antiques Roadshow

Recognised as one of the Antiques Roadshow’s most popular experts, Mark captivates audiences with his deep knowledge and engaging storytelling. He has featured on numerous television programmes, including Deep Wreck Mysteries, Who Do You Think You Are?, Bargain Hunt, The One Show, and BBC Breakfast, making him a familiar face to millions of viewers. Mark is renowned for his expertise in medals and militaria and will be sharing some great ideas when it comes to historic and battlefield venues that groups can visit.

Mark’s expertise also extends to radio, where he is a regular guest on the British Forces Broadcasting Service (BFBS), and podcasts for ABF The Soldiers’ Charity, sharing his insights with military history enthusiasts worldwide.

In addition, Mark is acknowledged as a global expert on the Victoria Cross and has authored five books on the Great War as well as contributing to numerous publications and magazines. His unrivalled expertise, passion, and captivating storytelling have solidified his reputation as a trusted authority in the world of medals and militaria, inspiring collectors and history lovers alike.

Gardeners' World presenter and author, Adam Frost

Best known for his regular appearances on the BBC’s Gardeners’ World, Adam will share suggestions on gardens for groups to visit and is a first-time speaker in the Seminar Theatre. He also presents the BBC’s coverage of multiple RHS Flower Shows and has featured on The One Show and DIY SOS, plus The Alan Titchmarsh Show. Adam has published a number of books and is trained in horticulture and landscape design. As well as running his own garden design and landscape business he also sits on the board for the Horticulture Trades Association and is an RHS Ambassador.

More about Adam Frost

In 2016 Adam won ‘Best New Talent’ at the RTS West Awards. Since 2007, he has amassed seven gold medals at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show. He regularly lectures on a wide range of horticultural topics, both nationally and internationally and is a regular contributor to Gardeners’ World and other horticultural magazines.

Adam’s first book Real Gardens was published in 2015, followed three years later by How to Create your Garden. In March 2022 he published The Creative Gardener, an incredibly personal book of garden projects created during lockdown. Autumn 2022 saw his first Gardener’s World tie-in book published titled How I Garden.

Adam is trained in horticulture and landscape design and began his professional career in the mid-1980s with an apprenticeship at the North Devon Parks Department. He later moved to Rutland where he began working with Geoff Hamilton at Barnsdale Gardens. He helped design and create many of the 38 small gardens which are still on show to the public today.
